Netflix has released the official trailer for the new WWII-era espionage thriller "Munich - The Edge of War," which is based on the international best-selling book by Robert Harris.

Starring George MacKay (1917), Jeremy Irons (House of Gucci), and Jannis Niewohner (Mute), the film is set in 1938 Germany. Hitler is preparing to invade Europe starting with the invasion and occupation of Czechoslovakia.

The Netflix drama chronicles the events surrounding the 1938 Munich Agreement, which was an emergency meeting of the main European powers. The film revolves around the secret negotiations between a young British diplomat named Hugh Legat (played by MacKay) and a young anti-Hitler German foreign officer named Paul von Hartmann (played by Niewohner) as they attempt to avert a war.

Irons is portraying UK Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain in the film, which also co-stars Jessica Brown Findlay, Sandra Huller, Liv Lisa Fries, August Diehl, and Ulrich Matthes.

German-born helmer Christian Schwochow, whose directing credits include episodes of "The Crown," directed the film, which was adapted by writer Ben Power (The Hollow Crown).

"Munich - The Edge of War" will open in select theaters throughout December but is slated to premiere on January 21st on Netflix.
