Check out the official first look trailer for the eagerly anticipated Shakespearean film from Academy Award-winning filmmaker Joel Coen (No Country for Old Men, Fargo).

Starring Oscar-winner Denzel Washington as Lord Macbeth and Oscar-winner Frances McDormand as Lady Macbeth, "The Tragedy of Macbeth" is a stylish black-and-white drama inspired by William Shakespeare's classic tragedy about a politically-driven Scottish general who believes he will become the King of Scotland.

This is a rare solo directorial effort from Joel Coen who, for the past 35 years, has worked alongside his brother Ethan Coen. But it seems Ethan has taken a sabbatical from filmmaking for the time being.

Five-time Oscar-nominated cinematographer Bruno Delbonnel (Inside Llewyn Davis, Amelie) is working behind the camera for this black-and-white Oscar contender, which also co-stars Corey Hawkins, Brendan Gleeson, Harry Melling, Moses Ingram, Ralph Ineson, Kathryn Hunter, and many more.

"The Tragedy of Macbeth" is set to make its world premiere this week at the New York Film Festival. The film is expected to open in U.S. theaters on December 25th before streaming exclusively on Apple TV Plus on January 14th.
