"Ted Lasso" star Jason Sudeikis tamps down his comedic instincts to play a convicted felon in the new pulpy crime thriller "South of Heaven," for which an official trailer has been released.

The film also stars Evangeline Lilly (Lost), Shea Whigham (Boardwalk Empire), Mike Colter (Luke Cage), and Michael Pare (Eddie & the Cruisers).

The film is from Israeli filmmaker Aharon Keshales (co-writer/co-director of the stylish thriller "Big Bad Wolves") and centers on a newly paroled convict (Sudeikis) who plans to spend a happy and quiet life with his terminally ill girlfriend (Lilly), only to find himself embroiled with a corrupt parole officer (Whigham) and a local crime boss (Colter).

"South of Heaven" is due to be released in theaters and on VOD and Digital beginning on October 8th.

synopsis:
Convicted felon Jimmy (Jason Sudeikis) gets early parole after serving twelve years for armed robbery. Upon his release, he vows to give his girlfriend Annie (Evangeline Lilly), who is dying of cancer, the best last year of her life. But things are never that simple, and when he is given a "side job" from his parole officer (Shea Whigham), it sets off a series of events that leaves Jimmy in the crosshairs of a local crime boss (Mike Colter). Now, he must stop at nothing to save Annie and fight for whatever time they have left.
