Tim Blake Nelson is a retired gunslinger who finds himself taking on a gang of outlaws to protect his teenage son in the new gritty western thriller, for which an official trailer has been released.

"Old Henry" features veteran character actor Tim Blake Nelson (The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, O Brother Where Art Thou?) as a reclusive widowed farmer whose life is upended when he discovers an unconscious injured man with a satchel of cash on his farm, inadvertently putting him and his son in serious danger.

Gavin Lewis (Little Fires Everywhere) co-stars as Blake Nelson's teenage son. Scott Haze (Minari, Child of God) also co-stars as the mysterious injured man, while country singer Trace Adkins plays a family friend. Stephen Dorff (True Detective: Season 3) rounds out the cast, playing the leader of dangerous bandits.

The film is written and directed by Potsy Ponciroli, the co-creator of the short-lived CMT sitcom "Still the King," which starred Billy Ray Cyrus. Ponciroli also previously wrote and directed the 2012 indie comedy "Super Zeroes."

"Old Henry" is scheduled to premiere next month in September at the Venice Film Festival. It will then open officially in theaters on October 1st.

OLD HENRY is an action-Western about a widowed farmer and his son who warily take in a mysterious injured man with a satchel of cash. When a posse of men claiming to be the law come for the money, the farmer must decide whom to trust. Defending against a siege of his homestead, he reveals a talent for gunslinging that surprises everyone, calling his true identity into question.
