Melissa McCarthy is a grieving woman who receives some surprisingly helpful advice from a former therapist-turned-veterinarian in the official trailer for "The Starling."

The upcoming Netflix original drama, which is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Theodore Melfi (of "St. Vincent" and "Hidden Figures" fame), also stars Chris O'Dowd as McCarthy's emotionally despondent husband.

After a personal family tragedy, O'Dowd finds himself checking into a mental hospital. Meanwhile, McCarthy is left to grieve alone, as she is forced to deal with a wild bird that has taken over her garden.

Kevin Kline also costars in the film as an ex-psychiatrist who now works as a local veterinarian. Despite leaving the mental health field years ago, Kline, nevertheless, becomes McCarthy's unlikely therapist. He has also agreed to counsel McCarthy's husband in an effort to save their faltering marriage.

Written by Matt Harris and costarring Timothy Olyphant, Daveed Diggs, Skyler Gisondo, Laura Harrier, Rosalind Chao, Kimberly Quinn, and Loretta Devine, "The Starling" will make its world premiere next month at the 2021 Toronto International Film Festival.

The film is slated to open in select theaters on September 17th. It will then be released on Netflix on September 24th.
