Learn more about the suicide mission at the center of the new "Suicide Squad" movie. Writer-Director James Gunn is revealing story details in this new behind-the-scenes featurette for the upcoming DC supervillain comic book movie.

"The Suicide Squad" is both a soft reboot and a sequel to the 2016 blockbuster, in which the "Guardians of the Galaxy" filmmaker was given the opportunity to write and direct his own version.

Margot Robbie returns as fan-favorite anti-heroine Harley Quinn alongside returning cast members Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, and Viola Davis who are also back as Rick Flag, Captain Boomerang, and Amanda Waller.

The new "Suicide Squad" film sees the reformation of a new team that now includes the skilled mercenary Bloodsport (Idris Elb); the anti-hero assassin Peacemaker (John Cena); the Polka-Dot Man (David Dastmalchian); King Shark (voiced by Sylvester Stallone), and Ratcatcher 2 (Daniela Melchior). Other cast members include Peter Capaldi, Michael Rooker, Pete Davidson, Nathan Fillion, Alice Braga, Flula Borg, Mayling Ng, and Sean Gunn.

"The Suicide Squad" is being released on HBO Max and in theaters beginning on August 6th.
