Netflix has released the first official teaser trailer for Season 2 of the hit Netflix medieval fantasy series "The Witcher," starring Henry Cavill as fabled monster slayer Geralt of Rivia.

The series, which is executive produced by showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich (Daredevil, The Umbrella Academy), is based on the best-selling fantasy novels by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, which is also the basis of a popular video game franchise.

Cavill returns as Geralt of Rivia, a stoic, misanthropic monster slayer for hire who has reluctantly vowed to protect an innocent princess named Ciri who possesses magical powers, yet hasn't mastered them yet. She is played by newcomer Freya Allan who also returns for Season 2.

British actress Anya Chalotra appears to be also back, again playing Yennefer of Vengerberg, a former cripple peasant girl who is now a powerful black magic sorceress.

Season 2 was delayed for a number of reasons. Obviously, the pandemic halted the production. But it seems "Game of Thrones" actor Kristofer Hivju, who was added to the cast of Season 2 this year, had tested positive for COVID-19 during his shoot. Cavill also injured his leg on the set in the U.K., which forced producers to rearrange some of the scenes to keep on schedule.

Nevertheless, "The Witcher: Season 2" is set to premiere on December 17th, only on Netflix. Watch the teaser, above.
