Check out the official U.S. trailer for the new arthouse musical drama "Annette," which comes from Leos Carax, the acclaimed writer-director of the award-winning French surreal film "Holy Motors."

The film stars Adam Driver as an experimental L.A. stand-up comedian and Marion Cotillard as a world-renowned opera singer. Their characters are caught up in a whirlwind romance. They are having their first child together. It's a baby girl who they named Annette -- and she will, no doubt, have an exceptional future.

Love, passion, and fame are just some of the themes being explored in this experimental musical drama, which features original music and lyrics by prolific musician brothers Ron and Russell Mael. They are better known as the founding members of the LA pop-new wave band "Sparks." Ron and Russell also wrote the original story for the film. (By the way, Ron and Russell are the subjects of director Edgar Wright's new music documentary called "The Sparks Brothers," which is out now).

Co-starring Big Bang Theory's Simon Helberg as a character who is described as "The Conductor," "Annette" will be making its world premiere next month at the Cannes Film Festival. The film will open in U.S. theaters on August 6th before arriving on Amazon Prime on August 20th.
