Mark Wahlberg plays a small-town father who embarks on a self-reflective walk across America to pay tribute to his gay teenage son in this heart-wrenching based-on-a-true-story drama, for which an official trailer has been released.

"Joe Bell" is the inspirational true story of an Oregonian father who in 2013 decided to walk across the country in order to raise awareness of bullying, gay victimization, and teen suicide. Joe Bell's son, Jadin, was a 15-year-old gay high school student who was mercilessly bullied at school which resulted in serious trauma and tragedy. In the film, Jadin is portrayed by newcomer Reid Miller, who stars alongside Wahlberg.

The film is written by Diana Ossana and Larry McMurtry, the Oscar-winning screenwriting team of "Brokeback Mountain." Filmmaker Reinaldo Marcus Green, who previously helmed the Sundance-winning drama "Monsters and Men," directs.

Co-starring Connie Britton and Gary Sinise, "Joe Bell" is scheduled to open in theaters on July 23rd. Watch the trailer, above.
