When his daughter is suddenly arrested for murder and faces a lengthy prison sentence, an oil rig worker from Oklahoma travels to France in a last-ditch effort to clear her name in this tense thriller that appears to be loosely inspired by the Amanda Knox case.

Check out the official trailer for "Stillwater," starring Matt Damon as a desperate and frantic father trying to exonerate his daughter for a crime she says she did not commit.

Abigail Breslin (Zombieland, Little Miss Sunshine) costars as Damon's daughter, while French actress Camille Cottin (Call My Agent!) plays a local French attorney trying to help Damon's character, despite his brash American hubris.

The film is directed and co-written by Oscar-winner Tom McCarthy, of "Spotlight" fame.

"Stillwater" is expected to open in theaters on July 30th.
