Sony has released the first official trailer for "Venom: Let There Be Carnage," the hotly anticipated sequel to the hit Sony/Marvel comic book movie that stars Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock, a San Francisco journalist who becomes the host of a short-tempered alien symbiote known for eating his victims.

The upcoming film, which also stars Michelle Williams, Naomie Harris, Reid Scott, and Stephen Graham, with Woody Harrelson returning as the iconic supervillain Carnage, depicts Hardy's version of Eddie Brock as an anti-hero struggling to give in to the homicidal impulses of his alien parasite.

(In the comic books, Venom has been known as one of Spider-man's greatest and deadliest enemies. Though due to the popularity of the character, Venom has gone through many incarnations.)

Though it seems in this film, Eddie Brock's main focus will be trying to stop Carnage from wreaking havoc on San Francisco. Carnage's human host is a convicted serial killer named Cletus Kasady, played by Harrelson. In the trailer, Harrelson is giving off a lot of Mickey Knox from "Natural Born Killers" vibes.

British actor and motion-capture legend Andy Serkis (Gollum, King Kong, Caesar) directs the upcoming comic book film, which is written by Kelly Marcel (Saving Mr. Banks) and based on a story by Marcel and Hardy. This will be Serkis's third feature as a director, following 2017's "Breathe" and 2018's "Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle."

"Venom: Let There Be Carnage" is currently scheduled to open in theaters on September 24th.
