The official trailer has been released for "The Serpent," the new, upcoming Netflix limited series that stars recent Golden Globe nominee Tahar Rahim, of "The Mauritanian" and "A Prophet."

The eight-episode thriller dramatizes the true story of infamous French conman and serial killer Charles Sobhraj who preyed on Western tourists throughout the Hippie Trail of Southeast Asia in the mid-1970s. Sometimes referred to as the Bikini Killer or the Serpent, Sobhraj committed at least a dozen murders throughout the regions of South Asia.

Rahim portrays Sobhraj while British actress Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who, Victoria) plays Sobhraj's French-Canadian girlfriend Marie-Andree Leclerc who reluctantly becomes his accomplice.

Billy Howle (Dunkirk, Outlaw King) also co-stars as a junior Dutch diplomat trying to track the killer down.

Written and executive produced by "Ripper Street" creator Richard Warlow, the mini-series is directed by Tom Shankland (House of Cards, Ripper Street) and Hans Herbots (Rellik). Shankland directed the first four episodes while Herbots helmed the final four.

"The Serpent," which has already aired in the UK back in January, will make its US debut next month, streaming on Netflix beginning April 2nd.
