Check out the opening scene from "Wonder Woman 1984," the highly-anticipated DC superhero sequel that will premiere this Christmas in theaters and on HBO Max.

The three-minute scene flashbacks to a young Diana Prince on the island of Themyscira as she participates in an Olympic Games-like sporting competition. Footage of this scene has appeared in previously-released trailers and commercials.

Directed and co-written by "Wonder Woman" director Patty Jenkins, the sequel once again stars Gal Gadot as the iconic Amazon warrior princess-turned-immortal crime-fighting superhero. This time around, the movie will take place in the year 1984 where Diana Prince (aka Wonder Woman) must assume the role of the world's mightiest heroine when her life is threatened by the arrival of two new supervillains -- the devilishly cunning entrepreneur Maxwell Lord (played by Pedro Pascal) and Cheetah-transforming scientist Barbara Ann Minerva (played by Kristen Wiig).

Chris Pine also co-stars, again playing Steve Trevor, who was thought to have died in the first "Wonder Woman" movie but has mysteriously returned in the 1980s.

"Wonder Woman 1984" will be released in both theaters and on the WB's new subscription-based streaming service HBO Max on the same date, starting on December 25th.
