French actor Omar Sy is an international gentleman burglar in the new Netflix original series, for which an official trailer has been released.

"Lupin" is inspired by the classic French detective novels by early 20th-century writer Maurice Leblanc, which featured the adventures of a master-of-disguise and a genius thief/detective named Arsene Lupin. Over the decades, the same source material had spawned a number of films, television shows, and cartoons, and comic strips in Europe. The Lupin character is often described as the French counterpart to Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes.

In this modern-day re-telling, Omar Sy (perhaps best known in the States for his roles in "The Intouchables," "X-Men: Days of Future Past," and "Jurassic World") plays Assane Diop, a skilled burglar who uses the legend of Arsene Lupin as an inspiration to avenge the injustice done to his father years ago.

Louis Leterrier, the French-born director of the action films "Now You See Me," "Clash of the Titans," and 2008's "The Incredible Hulk," directed the first episode of this seven-part series. Leterrier also directed the 2019 mini-series "The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance" for Netflix.

"Lupin" is due out on January 8th. It will also be available in French and English-language dubs only on Netflix.

synopsis:
As a teenager, Assane Diop's life was turned upside down when his father died after being accused of a crime he didn't commit. 25 years later, Assane will use "Arsene Lupin, Gentleman Burglar" as his inspiration to avenge his father.
