The official full-length trailer has been released for Netflix's new astronaut drama series "Away," starring Oscar-winner Hilary Swank as an astronaut commander who must leave her husband and teenage daughter behind to embark on a groundbreaking mission to Mars that will take three long years in deep space.

From Jason Katims, the Emmy-winning producer of "Friday Night Lights," the Netflix original series explores the emotional toll of a small crew of astronauts who are embarking on a life-or-death space mission as they are forced to separate from their loved ones.

Swank, who also is an executive producer on the series, plays Emma Green, the leader of an international space crew. She struggles to win over the confidence of her crew mates while she tries to cope with the pain of family separation.

The cast also includes Josh Charles (The Good Wife), Talitha Bateman (Love Simon), Ato Essandoh (Chicago Med), Mark Ivanir (Barry), Ray Panthaki (Gangs of London), and Vivian Wu (Snow Flower and the Secret Fan).

Filmmaker and television producer Edward Zwick (Thirtysomething, The Last Samurai, Glory) directed the pilot episode of this Andrew Hinderaker-created Netflix series. Zwick also serves as executive producer alongside Katims, Matt Reeves (Tales from the Loop), and Jessica Goldberg (The Path).

"Away" debuts on September 4th, only on Netflix.

synopsis:
In the near future, a manned spacecraft is sent to Mars. For this high-stakes mission, a crew of elite astronauts are assembled from around the globe. They hail from the United States, Russia, China, India, and Great Britain. If all goes well, they will be away from the place they call home and the people they love for three years. During this time, their relationships both on Earth and in space will be tested, as they struggle to stay alive and stay on track in pursuit of humanity's most important goal. The world will be watching.
