HBO has released the official Comic-Con trailer for Season 2 of "His Dark Materials."

The HBO drama, which is based on Philip Pullman's celebrated fantasy novel series, returns later this year with its second season, continuing the thrilling magical adventure of English orphan girl Lyra Belacqua, again played here by "Logan" breakout star Dafne Keen.

The fantasy series is set in a universe where each person possesses a spirit animal companion called daemons. Lyra is being chased down by the evil power-seeking explorer, Marisa Coulter, played by Golden Globe-winner Ruth Wilson (The Affair). But Lyra is under guard by American aeronaut Lee Scoresby (played by "Hamilton" creator Lin-Manuel Miranda), an armored polar-bear creature and her ferret-like daemon.

Amir Wilson (The Letter for the King) and Andrew Scott (Fleabag) join the cast of Season 2, which also includes Ariyon Bakare, Ruta Gedmintas, and Will Keen.

Executive produced by Jane Tranter and Jack Thorne, "His Dark Materials: Season 2" is due to premiere sometime in the fall on HBO and HBO MAX.

Adapting Philip Pullman's award-winning trilogy of the same name, which is considered a modern masterpiece of imaginative fiction, the first season follows Lyra, a seemingly ordinary but brave young woman from another world. Her search for a kidnapped friend uncovers a sinister plot involving stolen children, and becomes a quest to understand a mysterious phenomenon called Dust. As she journeys through the worlds, including our own, Lyra meets Will, a determined and courageous boy. Together, they encounter extraordinary beings and dangerous secrets, with the fate of both the living -- and the dead -- in their hands.
