You get two Seth Rogens for the price of one!

Rogen stars as a hard-working 1920s pickle factory worker -- and he also plays his schlubby great-grandson in the forthcoming streaming comedy "An American Pickle," for which the first official trailer has been released.

Based on the four-part novella "Sell Out" by acclaimed comedy writer/humorist Simon Rich (Man Seeking Woman, Miracle Workers), the feature film will debut in August on the new Warner Bros. streaming service, HBO Max.

"An American Pickle" tells the wacky outlandish story of a Jewish factory worker named Herschel (played by Seth Rogen) who has come to America in the hope of providing a better life for his family. But when he accidentally falls into a huge vat of pickles, Herschel's life changes forever. Because of the strong concentration of the pickle brine, Herschel finds himself waking up 100 years into the future, practically unscathed.

Now, it's present-day Brooklyn, New York. And with his beloved wife and children long dead, Herschel discovers he has only one surviving relative -- it's Herschel's unmarried, unemployed great-grandson, Ben (also played here by Rogen). And the two men have nothing in common, other than their physical traits and their shared stubbornness and misery.

Rogen's longtime cinematographer Brandon Trost (The Disaster Artist, The Interview, Neighbors, This Is the End) directed the film.

Co-starring Sarah Snook (Succession) and Jorma Taccone (Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping), "An American Pickle" premieres on August 6th, only on HBO MAX.

synopsis:
AN AMERICAN PICKLE, directed by Brandon Trost, is based on Simon Rich's New Yorker novella and stars Seth Rogen as Herschel Greenbaum, a struggling laborer who immigrates to America in 1920 with dreams of building a better life for his beloved family. One day, while working at his factory job, he falls into a vat of pickles and is brined for 100 years. The brine preserves him perfectly and when he emerges in present-day Brooklyn, he finds that he hasn’t aged a day. But when he seeks out his family, he is troubled to learn that his only surviving relative is his great-grandson, Ben Greenbaum (also played by Rogen), a mild-mannered computer coder whom Herschel can't even begin to understand.
