The mother-sister dynamic between an aging French diva actress and her embittered adult daughter is the source of both frustration and humor in this intimate family drama that stars French screen legend Catherine Deneuve and Oscar-winner Juliette Binoche.

Co-starring Oscar-nominated actor Ethan Hawke as Binoche's American husband, "The Truth" is the first non-Japanese film from award-winning master filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda, who is perhaps best known for his Cannes-winning Japanese films "Shoplifters" and "Like Father, Like Son."

Shot in both French and English, the film takes place in Paris where a famous French movie star (Catherine Deneuve) is about to publish her long-awaited memoirs. To celebrate the book's release, the aging actress has invited her screenwriter daughter and her New York actor husband (Juliette Binoche and Ethan Hawke) and their young daughter to stay with her for the weekend. Over the course of this friction-filled visit, mother and daughter finally get to hash out their differences, and possibly embrace their similarities.

After premiering to strong reviews at the Venice and Toronto film festivals, "The Truth" is scheduled to hit U.S. theaters on March 20, 2020. Watch the newly-released U.S. trailer, above.

Fabienne (Catherine Deneuve) is an aging French movie star who, despite her momentary lapses in memory, remains a venerable force to be reckoned with. Upon the publication of her memoirs, her daughter Lumir (Juliette Binoche) returns to Paris from New York with her husband (Ethan Hawke) and their young daughter to commemorate its release.

A sharp and funny battle of wits ensues between the mother-daughter duo, as Lumir takes issue with Fabienne's rose-colored version of the past. Reflected cleverly by Fabienne's latest role in a sci-fi drama, their strained relationship takes a poignant journey toward possible reconciliation.
