HBO has released several character featurettes for "His Dark Materials," featuring some new footage from the forthcoming fantasy-adventure series, which is adapted from the global best-selling novels by English author Philip Pullman.

Set in a parallel universe where each person possesses a magical, talking spirit animal companion called daemons, this eight-episode drama stars Dafne Keen, the breakout kid actress from the hit comic-book movie "Logan."

Keen plays Lyra Belacqua, a young English orphan girl who, after being sent to live with her uncle, the esteemed explorer Lord Asriel (played by IT: Chapter Two's James McAvoy), finds herself going on a magical expedition to the North Hemisphere where she teams up with charismatic American aeronaut Lee Scoresby (Tony-winning Hamilton creator-star Lin-Manuel Miranda). While trying to rescue kidnapped children from an evil secret society, Lyra uncovers a secret plot that puts her life in grave danger.

With the first season being based on "Northern Lights," the first installment in Pullman's book trilogy, the series also stars Ruth Wilson (Showtime's The Affair) as Marisa Coulter, a dubious power-seeking explorer.

Oscar-winning director Tom Hooper (The King's Speech, Les Miserables, Cats) directed the first two episodes of the series, which is executive produced by Jane Tranter (Succession, The Night Of) and Jack Thorne (This Is England: the series).

"His Dark Materials: Season 1" is scheduled to premiere in the U.S. on HBO starting Monday, November 4th.
