Doctor Sleep — Official Featurette: 'Danny's Journey'

Go behind the scenes of "Doctor Sleep," the sequel to Stephen King's classic horror tale "The Shining."

"I always wondered what happened to Danny when he grew up and I felt I had a story to tell," Stephen Kings says in this new official featurette, which goes into the making of the upcoming horror movie that is part faithful adaptation of King's 2013 sequel novel of the same name and also a spiritual follow-up to Stanley Kubrick's classic 1980 horror film.

Ewan McGregor stars in the film as a now-adult Danny Torrance, who was the young boy character with special psychic abilities from "The Shining."

While still haunted by the events that took placed in the Overlook Hotel, Danny has suppressed his "shining" abilities and inner demons through the use of alcohol. But when he meets a young girl (Kyliegh Curran) with similar "shining" powers, he finds himself becoming her protector as they try to hide from a ruthless group of semi-immortals led by a soul-sucking cult leader, played by Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible, The Greatest Showman).

Horror filmmaker Mike Flanagan wrote and directed "Doctor Sleep." Flanagan is the creator of the hit Netflix supernatural-horror series "The Haunting of Hill House." He also made the critically acclaimed Netflix adaptation of Stephen King's "Gerald's Game."

"Doctor Sleep" opens in theaters November 8th.

DOCTOR SLEEP continues the story of Danny Torrance, 40 years after his terrifying stay at the Overlook Hotel in The Shining. Ewan McGregor, Rebecca Ferguson and newcomer Kyliegh Curran star in the supernatural thriller, directed by Mike Flanagan, from his own screenplay based upon the novel by Stephen King.

Still irrevocably scarred by the trauma he endured as a child at the Overlook, Dan Torrance has fought to find some semblance of peace. But that peace is shattered when he encounters Abra, a courageous teenager with her own powerful extrasensory gift, known as the "shine." Instinctively recognizing that Dan shares her power, Abra has sought him out, desperate for his help against the merciless Rose the Hat and her followers, The True Knot, who feed off the shine of innocents in their quest for immortality.

Forming an unlikely alliance, Dan and Abra engage in a brutal life-or-death battle with Rose. Abra's innocence and fearless embrace of her shine compel Dan to call upon his own powers as never before -- at once facing his fears and reawakening the ghosts of the past.
