Check out a new extended commercial for "The Current War," the upcoming historical drama about the late 1880s business war between lightbulb inventor Thomas Edison, Pittsburgh tycoon George Westinghouse, and engineering genius Nikola Tesla.

Featuring an all-star cast that includes Benedict Cumberbatch, Michael Shannon, Nicholas Hoult, Tom Holland, and Katherine Waterston, the film is based on the incredible true story about the "War of the Currents," a tense business and intellectual competition between three of the most brilliant minds in the 1880s: Edison (Cumberbatch), Westinghouse (Shannon), and Tesla (Hoult).

While each had their own method for changing America's lighting capabilities, Edison, Westinghouse, and Tesla fought over who should be in charge of America's first ever electricity system.

Executive produced by Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese, "The Current War" is directed by Scorsese's former personal assistant Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, who also previously directed the Sundance-winning teen drama "Me and Earl and the Dying Girl." Gomez-Rejon also earned an Emmy nomination for helming episodes of "American Horror Story."

While it was originally filmed and completed back in 2017, "The Current War" was temporarily shelved due to the Harvey Weinstein scandal and the ensuing dissolution of the Weinstein Company. The film has since been sold off, and acquired by newly-minted film distributor, 101 Studios, who also agreed to finance a couple of days of reshoots.

Director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon was also given the opportunity to re-edit the entire film, despite it being screened at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival to mostly lukewarm reviews.

101 Studios is now planning to release Gomez-Rejon's brand-new director cut of the film, which will include five additional scenes -- although, it will end up being 10 minutes shorter than the original TIFF version.

"The Current War: Director's Cut" is set to open in theaters October 25th.
