HBO has released a new 60-second "Watchmen" promo, which recently aired during the Emmy Awards.

The cable series is a contemporary re-imagining of the classic 1986 graphic novel of the same name by legendary comic book writer Alan Moore and illustrator Dave Gibbons, which was adapted into a 2009 R-rated superhero movie from director Zack Snyder.

This series, which is part sequel, part reinterpretation, hails from the mind of Emmy-winner Damon Lindelof, executive producer of the hit mystery dramas "Lost" and "The Leftovers."

Set in an alternate world where masked superheroes have existed for decades but are now viewed as outlaws, "Watchmen" stars Oscar-and-Emmy winner Regina King as a costume-donning police detective trying to stop the rise of a new masked vigilante terrorist group called the Seventh Cavalry who have recently been killing off police officers.

The cast also includes Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Hong Chau, Emmy-winner Jean Smart, and Oscar-winner Louis Gossett Jr. with Oscar-winner Jeremy Irons playing an older Adrian Veidt.

"Watchmen: The Series" is scheduled to premiere October 20th, only on HBO.
