Now that "Game of Thrones" has finished its run, HBO is swiftly delving back into the world of fantasy. This time, it's for a new kid-led adventure series based on Philip Pullman's global best-selling fantasy novels "His Dark Materials."

While just premiering today at the San Diego Comic Con, check out the new official full-length trailer for the eagerly anticipated small-screen "His Dark Materials" adaptation, starring "Logan" breakout Dafne Keen as Lyra Belacqua, an English orphan girl embarking on a magical voyage to the deeper reaches of the North Hemisphere to rescue kidnapped orphan children.

Set in a parallel universe where each person possesses a spirit animal companion called daemons, the eight-episode drama -- a co-production between HBO and the BBC -- also stars James McAvoy (X-Men, IT Chapter Two) as Lyra's uncle, an aristocratic scholar and adventurer named Lord Asriel, and Golden Globe-winner Ruth Wilson (Showtime's The Affair) as the mysterious power-seeking explorer Marisa Coulter, who's been described as the mother of all evil, with Tony-winning "Hamilton" creator Lin-Manuel Miranda co-starring as charismatic American aeronaut Lee Scoresby who ends up helping Lyra on her rescue mission.

Based on "Northern Lights," the first installment in Pullman's book trilogy -- which itself had been adapted into the 2007 Nicole Kidman-Daniel Craig film "The Golden Compass," the series has already been greenlit for a second season.

Co-starring Clarke Peters, Lewin Lloyd, Ruta Gedmintas, Lucian Msamati, Anne-Marie Duff, James Cosmo, and Will Keen, "His Dark Materials: Season 1" is due to premiere sometime in the fall on HBO and BBC One.

synopsis:
Adapting Philip Pullman's award-winning trilogy of the same name, which is considered a modern masterpiece of imaginative fiction, the first season follows Lyra, a seemingly ordinary but brave young woman from another world. Her search for a kidnapped friend uncovers a sinister plot involving stolen children, and becomes a quest to understand a mysterious phenomenon called Dust. As she journeys through the worlds, including our own, Lyra meets Will, a determined and courageous boy.
