There's a thin line between love and hate -- and a fine line between being an evil fairy godmother and being an overly protective parent.

Academy Award winner Angelina Jolie unleashes her inner mama bear as she once again plays the iconic Sleeping Beauty winged villainess, Maleficent, in the upcoming Disney fantasy sequel, for which an official trailer has been released.

The film is a follow-up to 2014's live-action dark fairy tale blockbuster, which re-imagined Disney's cartoon classic "Sleeping Beauty" as it gave its main baddie character, Maleficent, an extended, sympathetic history.

The sequel will revolve around the impeding marriage between soon-to-be-Queen Aurora (once again played by Elle Fanning) and Prince Philip (now played by English actor Harris Dickinson; from "The Darkest Minds" and the FX mini-series "Trust").

Of course, Maleficent (Jolie) does not approve of Aurora's love for Philip, and the mere thought of it makes her furious, and at times, ferocious.

Maleficent soon comes face to face with Philip's Queen mother, Ingrith (played by legendary actress Michelle Pfeiffer). Maleficent and Queen Ingrith lock horns, sort of speak, as the two unwavering women fight over Aurora's fate, and also over the control of their two kingdoms -- which now includes a hidden clan of Moors. They're Maleficent's own supernatural fairy people who everyone thought was killed off decades ago. And Chiwetel Ejiofor co-stars here as the tribal leader of the Moors.

Norwegian filmmaker Joachim Ronning, who previously co-directed "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" with his former directing partner Espen Sandberg (They also co-directed the Oscar-nominated Norwegian drama "Kon-Tiki" and the acclaimed WWII film "Max Manus: Man of War") makes his solo directorial debut with "Maleficent: Mistress of Evil," which is currently scheduled to open everywhere on October 18th. In the meantime, check out the full-length trailer, above.

synopsis:
"Maleficent: Mistress of Evil" is a fantasy adventure that picks up several years after "Maleficent," in which audiences learned of the events that hardened the heart of Disney's most notorious villain and drove her to curse a baby Princess Aurora.

The film continues to explore the complex relationship between the horned fairy and the soon to be Queen as they form new alliances and face new adversaries in their struggle to protect the moors and the magical creatures that reside within.
