This is the story about three of the most brilliant minds in the 1880s, and how they went to war with each other over who should be in charge of America's first ever electricity system.

Check out the new official trailer for "The Current War," the forthcoming historical drama about the "War of the Currents," a tense business battle and intellectual competition between celebrated inventor Thomas Edison (Benedict Cumberbatch), famed tycoon George Westinghouse (Michael Shannon), and engineering genius Nikola Tesla (Nicholas Hoult), who each had their own method for changing America's lighting capabilities, from the old 19th-century infrastructure of gas lamps to a new, groundbreaking electric power system.

Directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon (American Horror Story, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) and executive produced by Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese, the film also stars Spider-Man's Tom Holland and Fantastic Beasts' Katherine Waterston with Matthew Macfadyen and Tuppence Middleton.

Though originally scheduled to be released in late 2017 by the Weinstein Company, "The Current War" was pulled from its scheduled, shelved, and put in limbo due to the Harvey Weinstein scandal. The film has since been sold off, and was acquired by newly-minted film distributor, 101 Studios. The company also agreed to finance a couple of days of reshoots. Director Gomez-Rejon was also given the opportunity to re-edit the film, which received lukewarm reviews at 2017's TIFF.

"The Current War" is now slated to open in theaters on October 25th, before expanding nationwide on October 11. Watch the new trailer, above.
