Check out the new official teaser trailer for "Godfather of Harlem," the upcoming EPIX drama series that stars Academy Award-winner Forest Whitaker as legendary Harlem mob boss Bumpy Johnson.

From Chris Brancato and Paul Eckstein, the producers of the Netflix crime series "Narcos," "Godfather of Harlem" is a new ten-episode historical drama that tells the untold story of the real-life alliance between Harlem gangster Bumpy Johnson and civil rights leader Malcolm X.

Actor Nigel Thatch, who portrayed Malcolm X in Ava DuVernay's acclaimed 2014 film "Selma," is again playing the famed Muslim leader, who in the 1960s aligned himself with mobster Bumpy Johnson (Whitaker) as they worked together to regain control of the streets of Harlem from the notorious Italian Genovese crime family.

Vincent D'Onofrio (Jurassic World, Daredevil) also co-stars in the EPIX series as Italian mobster Vincent "Chin" Gigante.

Oscar-winning screenwriter John Ridley (12 Years a Slave) directs the premiere episode, while Whitaker also serves as executive producer on the series.

Co-starring Ilfenesh Hadera (Netflix's She's Gotta Have It) and Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), "Godfather Of Harlem" is being released exclusively on the EPIX network, starting on September 29th.

synopsis:

With the streets controlled by the Italian mob, Bumpy must take on the Genovese crime family to regain control. During the brutal battle, he forms an alliance with radical preacher Malcolm X -- catching Malcolm's political rise in the crosshairs of social upheaval and a mob war that threatens to tear the city apart.
