Check out the first official teaser trailer for "Doctor Sleep," the upcoming film adaptation of Stephen King's 2013 horror novel of the same name, which is the sequel to King's classic 1977 best-seller "The Shining."

Ewan McGregor stars as a now-adult Dan, who has been psychologically scarred by his traumatic past, yet has persevered to become a hospice care provider who uses his psychic powers (or what he calls "the shining") to comfort his dying patients.

When Dan meets a young teen girl, named Abra (played by newcomer Kyliegh Curran), and learns that she is very much like him, possesses similar psychic powers, he finds himself becoming the girl's protector after she is targeted by a cult group of shine-feeding semi-immortals, called The True Knot.

"Mission: Impossible" actress Rebecca Ferguson co-stars as The True Knot's sinister leader, Rose the Hat.

"Doctor Sleep" is written and directed by acclaimed horror filmmaker Mike Flanagan, whose credits include the Stephen King-based Netflix thriller "Gerald's Game" and the horror sequel "Ouija: Origin of Evil," and who recently created the hit Netflix supernatural-horror series "The Haunting of Hill House."

While featuring many visual throwbacks to "The Shining," the film is part faithful adaptation of Stephen King's sequel novel, and part spiritual follow-up to Stanley Kubrick's classic horror film, which King famously did not particularly loved -- though, apparently, Flanagan has gotten the endorsement from both King himself and the Kubrick estate.

"Doctor Sleep" is scheduled to hit theaters nationwide on November 8th. Watch the trailer, above.
