When they break into an old haunted house and discover a mysterious book of scary stories, a group of high school teens find themselves embroiled in a real-life horror tale, involving a host of terrifying ghouls and monsters.

From executive producer Guillermo del Toro, the Oscar-winning director of "The Shape of Water," comes a new teen-horror thriller inspired by the popular urban legend-themed YA book series by writer Alvin Schwartz and illustrator Stephen Gammell.

"Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" stars Zoe Colletti (Annie), Michael Garza (Wayward Pines), Austin Abrams (Brad's Status), Gabriel Rush (Moonrise Kingdom), Austin Zajur (Fist Fight), and Natalie Ganzhorn (Make It Pop) as teenagers in a small American town who stumble on an old horror book that was made decades ago by a dead girl. In it are terrifying stories that will not only sear images into the reader's mind, but also into the reader's real world.

Directed by Norwegian horror helmer Andre Ovredal (Trollhunter, The Autopsy of Jane Doe) and co-starring Dean Norris, Gil Bellows, and Lorraine Toussaint, "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" is hitting theaters on August 9th. Watch the newly-released official trailer, above.

synopsis:
From the dark imaginations of Academy Award-winner Guillermo del Toro and acclaimed director Andre Ovredal, based on the iconic book series, comes SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK --- in theaters this summer.

It's 1968 in America. Change is blowing in the wind...but seemingly far removed from the unrest in the cities is the small town of Mill Valley where for generations, the shadow of the Bellows family has loomed large. It is in their mansion on the edge of town that Sarah, a young girl with horrible secrets, turned her tortured life into a series of scary stories, written in a book that has transcended time -- stories that have a way of becoming all too real for a group of teenagers who discover Sarah's terrifying home.
