While featuring a bit of new footage, FOX has released a couple of brand-new "Dark Phoenix" featurettes, which not only delves into the history behind the iconic X-Men story arc, "The Dark Phoenix Saga," by famed comic book writer Chris Claremont and Marvel editor-writer Louise Simonson, but also takes a look back at the legacy of Fox's "X-Men" film franchise.

Directed by "X-Men" producer/screenwriter Simon Kinberg, who makes his directorial debut, "Dark Phoenix" stars "Game of Thrones" actress Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, a telepathic/telekinetic 'X-Men' mutant who is reborn after having a near-death experience during a space rescue mission.

After solar radiation exposure has awakened a dormant super-power within her, Jean gradually gives in to her dark side, becoming the most powerful villain the X-Men have ever faced.

Also, starring Jennifer Lawrence (as Mystique), James McAvoy (as Professor X), Michael Fassbender (as Magneto), Tye Sheridan (as Cyclops), Nicholas Hoult (as Beast), Evan Peters (as Quicksilver), Alexandra Shipp (as Storm), and Kodi Smit-McPhee (as Nightcrawler), the upcoming superhero movie also features Jessica Chastain as a mysterious shape-shifting alien who becomes Jean's new Machiavellian mentor.

While likely the last "X-Men" movie from 20th Century Fox, "Dark Phoenix" is set to open everywhere on June 7th.

synopsis:
In DARK PHOENIX, the X-MEN face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite -- not only to save Jean's soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.
