A gut-churning red band clip from "Brightburn" has been released, which shows an unsuspecting waitress getting hit in the face with shards of broken glass, before being chased into a meat locker by an evil, angry boy with Superman-like abilities -- for example, he can fly. He also appears to have super strength, and apparently, he can shoot laser beams from his eyes.

From producer James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy), "Brightburn" stars Elizabeth Banks (Pitch Perfect, The Hunger Games) as the adoptive human mother of a mysterious orphan boy named Brandon (played by Jackson A. Dunn) who originally came from outer space, and crash-landed on Earth when he was an infant.

Like Superman, Brandon was raised to be a normal boy by two loving Midwestern parents (Banks and David Denman). But unlike Superman, Brandon appears to be embracing his inner super-villain, unleashing his wrath on people who wronged him.

Directed by horror filmmaker David Yarovesky (The Hive) and written by James Gunn's screenwriting brothers, Mark and Brian Gunn (Journey 2: The Mysterious Island), "Brightburn" is due out on May 24th.

synopsis:
What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister?

With BRIGHTBURN, producer James Gunn, the visionary filmmaker of "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "Slither," presents a startling, subversive take on a radical new genre: superhero horror.
