When the world is threatened by an evil genius, the only thing that can save the planet is a talking blue Hedgehog who can run at supersonic speeds.

Check out the first official trailer for the forthcoming live-action film adaptation of the popular Sega videogame franchise "Sonic The Hedgehog," featuring comedian Ben Schwartz (Parks and Recreation) as the voice of Sonic.

Comic legend Jim Carrey co-stars as the villainous Dr. Robotnik, a nefarious industrialist who wants to capture Sonic in order to study and replicate his supersonic powers.

The film also co-stars James Marsden (from HBO's "Westworld") as a local sheriff who ends up partnering with Sonic. Meanwhile, the cast also includes Tika Sumpter (Ride Along, The Old Man & the Gun) and Neal McDonough (Yellowstone, Arrow).

Jeff Fowler, an animator who directed and produced the 2004 Oscar-nominated animated short film "Gopher Broke," makes his live-action feature directorial debut with "Sonic The Hedgehog," which is scheduled to hit theaters in early 2020.
