It's a retelling of one of William Shakespeare's most iconic plays, "Hamlet." But, this time, it's being told through the eyes of Hamlet's love interest, Ophelia, as portrayed here by "Star Wars" star Daisy Ridley.

Check out the official trailer for "Ophelia," which also features George MacKay (Captain Fantastic) as Prince Hamlet; two-time Oscar nominee Naomi Watts as Hamlet's mother, Gertrude, the Queen of Denmark, and Clive Owen as Hamlet's murderous uncle and stepfather, Claudius.

The film is directed by acclaimed Australian filmmaker Claire McCarthy, whose credits include 2010's "The Waiting City" and the upcoming mini-series "The Luminaries."

Based on Lisa Klein's novel of the same name, "Ophelia" tells the dramatic and tragic story of young lady-in-waiting Ophelia (Ridley) who, during the aftermath of the king's shocking death, finds herself choosing between her love for Hamlet and her own life.

Co-starring Tom Felton, Devon Terrell, and Daisy Head, "Ophelia" is scheduled to hit theaters on June 28th and then on VOD July 5th. Watch the trailer, above.

synopsis:
One of the world's greatest dramas is turned on its head through a bold and new perspective in OPHELIA. Set in medieval Denmark and spoken in a modern tongue with a poetic twist, it re-calibrates the classic Shakespearean tragedy of "Hamlet" so that its unspoken, complex heroine may share her own story.

As a rebellious and motherless child, Ophelia (Daisy Ridley) is taken into Elsinore Castle by Queen Gerturde (Naomi Watts) as one of her most trusted ladies-in-waiting. Soon enough, Ophelia captures the affections of the young Prince Hamlet (George MacKay). A passionate romance kindles between the two in secret as the kingdom is on the brink of war amidst its own political intrigue and betrayal. When Hamlet’s father is murdered and the prince’s wits begin to unravel into an insatiable quest for vengeance, Ophelia sharply navigates the rules of power in Denmark all while struggling to choose between her true love and her own life.
