A wrongly convicted man fights to clear his name in the official trailer for the new inspirational football drama "Brian Banks," which stars Aldis Hodge (from "Straight Outta Compton" and "Hidden Figures") and Greg Kinnear (from "House of Cards" and "Little Miss Sunshine").

The film is based on the true story of football player Brian Banks (played by Hodge), who at age 17 was an all-American high school football star in Long Beach, California when he was falsely accused of sexually assaulting one of his fellow classmates.

Unjustly convicted of a crime he didn't commit, Brian was sent to prison for several years, during which he found support from California Innocence Project (CIP), a non-profit organization that specializes in exonerating wrongly convicted individuals.

Kinnear portrays Justin Brooks, CIP co-founder and criminal defense attorney who is given ten months to clear Brian's name.

Co-starring Melanie Liburd (This Is Us), Sherri Shepherd (30 Rock), and Dorian Missick (Luke Cage), with a special appearance by Oscar-winner Morgan Freeman, "Brian Banks" marks the return of director Tom Shadyac (Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Nutty Professor, Bruce Almighty), who hasn't helmed a feature film since 2007's "Evan Almighty" -- though Shadyac did direct the 2010 self-help spiritual documentary "I Am."

Written by "Akeelah and the Bee" scribe Doug Atchison, "Brian Banks" is hitting theaters August 9th.
