It's the hottest toy on the market, and people are just dying to get their hands on one.

Check out a new official trailer for the forthcoming modern-day reboot of the cult 1988 slasher horror thriller "Child's Play," which centers around an infamous killer doll named Chucky.

The film, which is entirely separate from Don Mancini's ongoing "Chucky" film series, is a contemporary, fresh take on Chucky's origins, giving him a high-tech revamp.

Set in a world where the hottest toy is the Buddi doll, a WiFi-enabled smart gadget with voice-interaction technology, the film stars Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Rec, Legion) as a single mother who, in an attempt to please her 13-year-old son, buys one of the dolls, only to later discover that a faulty computer chip has turned it into an unstoppable killing machine, voiced by none other than beloved "Star Wars" actor Mark Hamill.

Co-starring Atlanta's Brian Tyree Henry as a police detective and Tim Matheson (The West Wing, Animal House) as the CEO/founder of the Kaslan tech company, the makers of the Buddi dolls, the remake is directed by horror filmmaker Lars Klevberg, who also directed the long-delayed supernatural thriller "Polaroid," which is also due out this year.

Hailing from the producers of the horror blockbuster "It," "Child's Play" is scheduled to open nationwide June 21st.

synopsis:
A contemporary re-imagining of the 1988 horror classic, CHILD'S PLAY follows Karen (Aubrey Plaza), a single mother who gifts her son Andy (Gabriel Bateman) a Buddi doll, unaware of its more sinister nature.
