When she's not facing dragons and white walkers, "Game of Thrones" star Sophie Turner is busy getting blasted into space with her fellow X-Men teammates as she reprises her role as red-headed telepathic/telekinetic mutant wunderkind Jean Grey in FOX/Marvel's upcoming "X-Men" sequel.
Check out the newly-released final trailer for "Dark Phoenix," a Jean Grey-centric superhero movie that's loosely based on one of the most iconic and beloved X-Men comic book story-lines, "The Dark Phoenix Saga," in which Jean Grey is exposed to solar radiation during a space mishap, only to return home as a completely new, powerful woman who succumbs to her dark side.
Jean eventually transforms into an unstoppable super-villain, known as the Dark Phoenix, which puts the X-Men into an impossible situation where they must fight against someone they know and love.
"X-Men" producer/screenwriter Simon Kinberg makes his directorial debut with "Dark Phoenix," which also features Jessica Chastain as a mysterious, manipulative, shape-shifting alien who encourages Jean to accept her dark side.
The rest of the returning X-Men cast include Jennifer Lawrence (as Mystique), James McAvoy (as Professor X), Michael Fassbender (as Magneto), Tye Sheridan (as Cyclops), Nicholas Hoult (as Beast), Evan Peters (as Quicksilver), Alexandra Shipp (as Storm), and Kodi Smit-McPhee (as Nightcrawler).
Set to open globally on June 7th, "Dark Phoenix" is likely the last "X-Men" movie from 20th Century Fox, since now the rights of those characters have been reverted back to Marvel Studios due to the recent Disney-FOX merger.
synopsis:
In DARK PHOENIX, the X-MEN face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite -- not only to save Jean's soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.
