Johnny Depp plays a middle-aged college teacher who, after being diagnosed with terminal cancer, decides to free himself from the pressures of his responsibilities in the official trailer for "The Professor."

Also, starring Rosemarie DeWitt, Ron Livingston, Zoey Deutch, and Danny Huston, the darkly comic cancer-crisis dramedy sees Depp as Richard, a snooty English professor at an upper-crust university who is told by his doctor that he only has about six months to live. Richard then proceeds to live out the last, remaining days of his life with the absence of rules and societal restraints.

"My name is Richard. I'm your professor," says Depp as he stands in front of a class of wide-eyed college students. "From here on out we're going to do things very differently ... Oh! And if any of you sell marijuana, please visit me during office hours."

The film is written and directed by filmmaker Wayne Roberts, who previously made the 2016 indie waitress drama "Katie Says Goodbye."

"The Professor" is to be released exclusively on DirecTV beginning April 18th and will then be released in theaters and VOD on May 17th.
