Hellboy is R-rated, and pretty gory. And you can get a taste of some of its blood-splattering action in the final red band trailer for the "Hellboy" reboot.

David Harbour, of "Stranger Things" fame, dons a pair of shaved demon horns and a devil-may-care attitude as he offers his take on the iconic monster-slaying superhero. He's a blue-collar type of guy, only his skin is the color of a tomato, and his right arm is made of stone -- made for bashing the heads of giant demon monsters.

Based off "The Witch Hunt" -- it's one of the main story arcs from the comic books by artist Mike Mignola, the film casts "Resident Evil" star Milla Jovovich as the main villain, Queen Nimue, described here as "the Queen of blood ... and for f--king good reason."

When she is resurrected from her grave, the ancient blood sorceress sets out to end the world. And, so, when the world is in deep trouble, you call the only hero who is up for the job: "We need Hellboy!" "It's about goddamn time."

British filmmaker Neil Marshall, best known for the cult horror movie "The Descent" and also known for directing a couple of memorable episodes of "Game of Thrones," steps into the director's shoes, which was once famously vacated by Oscar-winner Guillermo del Toro.

The reboot also stars Ian McShane (American Gods), Daniel Dae Kim (Lost), Sasha Lane (American Honey), Sophie Okonedo (Hotel Rwanda), and Thomas Haden Church (Spider-Man 3).

"Hellboy" opens Friday, April 12th.

synopsis:
Hellboy is back, and he's on fire.

From the pages of Mike Mignola's seminal work, this action-packed story sees the legendary half-demon superhero (David Harbour) called to the English countryside to battle a trio of rampaging giants. There he discovers The Blood Queen, Nimue (Milla Jovovich), a resurrected ancient sorceress thirsting to avenge a past betrayal. Suddenly caught in a clash between the supernatural and the human, Hellboy is now hell-bent on stopping Nimue without triggering the end of the world.
