Here's Zac Efron like you've never seen him before. He plays a "very disturbed, sick individual," who has chosen to represent himself at his own murder trial.

Check out the official trailer for "Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile," Netflix's much-buzzed-about Ted Bundy biopic, in which former teen heartthrob Zac Efron takes on the role of the notorious murderer, who was widely considered to be one of the most infamous and most depraved serial killers in history.

Convicted for killing, raping and mutilating numerous young women and girls during the 1970s, Ted Bundy was known to bait his victims with his charismatic charm and brooding good looks. During his much publicized murder trial in 1979 ("the first nationally televised trial in history"), Bundy, a former law student, chose to act as his own attorney. In doing so, he, to the surprise and shock of many, attracted a number of female groupies.

The Netflix drama also stars Lily Collins (Okja, Rules Don't Apply) as Liz Kendall, a single mother from Utah who was in a romantic relationship with Ted during the time of his heinous murders. Much of the film is told from her perspective as she finds herself stupefied and confused by the events surrounding Bundy's arrest and trial.

"Ted, did you do it?" Liz asks Bundy as he sits in prison behind a plexiglas barrier. He calmly answers, "No."

The film is directed by award-winning documentarian Joe Berlinger (of the "Paradise Lost" documentary film series), who also made this year's hit Netflix documentary "Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes."

"Extremely Wicked..." co-stars John Malkovich, Angela Sarafyan (Westworld), Jim Parsons (Big Bang Theory), Haley Joel Osment (Future Man), and Kaya Scodelario (The Maze Runner), with a guest appearance by Metallica frontman James Hetfield as a highway patrol officer.

The film, which premiered earlier this year at Sundance and will screen in May at Tribeca, is coming to select theaters and Netflix on May 3rd.
