A group of young high school kids are tormented by nightmarish visions when they stumble upon a mysterious book of horror stories, in which scary monsters suddenly come alive.

Check out the new official teaser trailer for "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark," a teen-horror feature collaboration between producer Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water, Hellboy) and director Andre Ovredal (Trollhunter, The Autopsy of Jane Doe).

The film, which is inspired by the popular urban legend-themed children's book series by writer Alvin Schwartz and illustrator Stephen Gammell, stars Zoe Colletti (Annie), Michael Garza (Wayward Pines), Austin Abrams (Brad's Status), Gabriel Rush (Moonrise Kingdom), Austin Zajur (Fist Fight), and Natalie Ganzhorn (Make It Pop) with Dean Norris (Breaking Bad), Gil Bellows (The Shawshank Redemption), Lorraine Toussaint (Into the Badlands), and notable creature performer Javier Botet (IT, Mama, Crimson Peak).

With a screen story written by Oscar-winner Guillermo del Toro and horror scribes Patrick Melton & Marcus Dunstan (Feast and the Saw Sequels), and a screenplay written by "Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia" writers Dan Hageman & Kevin Hageman, the film takes place in a small American town called Mill Valley, where a young girl named Sarah Bellows once kept a handmade horror book. In it are scary stories ... stories that continue to strike fear into the hearts of whoever reads them.

"Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" is coming to theaters August 9th.

From the dark imaginations of Academy Award-winner Guillermo del Toro and acclaimed director Andre Ovredal, based on the iconic book series, comes SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK --- in theaters this summer.

It's 1968 in America. Change is blowing in the wind...but seemingly far removed from the unrest in the cities is the small town of Mill Valley where for generations, the shadow of the Bellows family has loomed large. It is in their mansion on the edge of town that Sarah, a young girl with horrible secrets, turned her tortured life into a series of scary stories, written in a book that has transcended time -- stories that have a way of becoming all too real for a group of teenagers who discover Sarah's terrifying home.
