When Earth suddenly becomes uninhabitable, humans are forced to flee to Mars. While boarding a large state-of-the-art transport ship, a group of passengers depart on a three-week-long voyage. But while on route to the Red Planet, the spaceship is unexpectedly knocked off course, turning this space voyage into a full-on existential crisis.

Check out the official U.S. trailer for "Aniara," a Swedish science-fiction thriller that's based on the 1956 poem by Swedish Nobel Prize-winning writer Harry Martinson.

Marking the feature debut of the writing-and-directing duo of Pella Kagerman and Hugo Lilja, the film stars Swedish actors Emelie Jonsson, Arvin Kananian, Bianca Cruzeiro, Anneli Martini, and Jennie Silfverhjelm

After premiering at last year's Toronto International Film Festival, "Aniara" is hitting theaters and VOD on May 17th.

A ship carrying settlers to Mars is knocked off course, causing the consumption-obsessed passengers to consider their place in the universe, in Pella Kagerman and Hugo Lilja's eerie and caustic sci-fi adaptation of a work by Swedish Nobel Prize-winning writer Harry Martinson.
