Disney's eagerly anticipated remake of the classic 1994 animated musical "The Lion King" has received its first official TV spot, which debuted during Sunday night's broadcast of the 2019 Oscars Awards.

Featuring a cast of photorealistic computer-generated talking African animals, the film has been described as a "live-action" re-telling of the noble journey of a young lion prince named Simba who, after years of living in exile, returns home to reclaim the throne from his evil uncle, Scar.

Hailing from Jon Favreau, the director of "The Jungle Book," the film boasts an all-star voice cast that includes Donald Glover, James Earl Jones, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Alfre Woodard, Seth Rogen, John Oliver, Billy Eichner, Keegan-Michael Key, and Beyonce Knowles-Carter.

"The Lion King" opens July 19th.

Director Jon Favreau's all-new "The Lion King" journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. Scar, Mufasa's brother -- and former heir to the throne -- has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba's exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his.
