The first official teaser trailer has been released for "Native Son," HBO's upcoming modern-day adaptation of Richard Wright's thought-provoking 1940 novel of the same name.

"Moonlight" actor Ashton Sanders plays a young African-American man living in the south side of Chicago who accepts the chance to work as a chauffeur for a wealthy businessman (played by character actor Bill Camp, from HBO's "The Night Of"). His life, however, is soon upended when he becomes involved with the boss's live-wire daughter (Margaret Qualley, from HBO's "Leftovers").

A frank examination of America's racial divide, as told through the eyes of a young black punk-rock poet, "Native Son" marks the directorial debut of Chicago-born artist and photographer Rashid Johnson.

The cast also includes Nick Robinson (Love, Simon), KiKi Layne (If Beale Street Could Talk), Sanaa Lathan (Nappily Ever After), Elizabeth Marvel (Homeland), and David Alan Grier (In Living Color).

Adapted for the screen by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Suzan-Lori Parks (Topdog/Underdog), "Native Son," which premiered at Sundance this year, will air on HBO beginning April 6th.

synopsis:
Based on the classic novel by Richard Wright, NATIVE SON tells the story of Bigger Thomas (Ashton Sanders), a young African-American living in Chicago who is hired as a chauffeur for affluent businessman Will Dalton (Bill Camp). As Thomas enters this seductive new world of money and power -- including a precarious relationship with Dalton's daughter, Mary (Margaret Qualley) -- he faces unforeseen choices and perilous circumstances that will alter the course of his life forever.
