Tolkien — Official Teaser Trailer

The first official teaser trailer has been released for "Tolkien," the forthcoming J. R. R. Tolkien biopic, starring Nicholas Hoult and Lily Collins.

The period drama is focusing on the early years of the renowned English author (portrayed here by Hoult), who is widely known and celebrated for writing the seminal best-selling fantasy epics "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" novels.

Directed by award-winning Finnish helmer Dome Karukoski (Tom of Finland, Lapland Odyssey, Heart of a Lion), the film is dramatizing Tolkien's formative school days, his traumatic experiences serving in World War I, and also his courtship and marriage to his teenage crush and lifelong muse, Edith Bratt (played by Collins).

Written by David Gleeson and Stephen Beresford (Pride), "Tolkien" is scheduled to open in U.S. theaters May 10th. Watch the trailer, above.

synopsis:
TOLKIEN explores the formative years of the orphaned author as he finds friendship, love and artistic inspiration among a group of fellow outcasts at school. This takes him into the outbreak of World War I, which threatens to tear the "fellowship" apart. All of these experiences would inspire Tolkien to write his famous Middle-Earth novels.
