Hulu has released the first official teaser trailer for "Catch-22," George Clooney's upcoming mini-series based on the critically acclaimed satirical WWII novel by author Joseph Heller.

The six-part series, in which Clooney executive produces and also directs the first two episodes, stars Christopher Abbott (First Man, HBO's Girls) as a World War II Air Force bombardier named John Yossarian who finds himself stuck in bureaucratic purgatory when he discovers that the only way to get out of flying combat missions is by becoming certified insane.

Clooney co-stars as Yossarian's parade-obsessed unit commander Scheisskopf. Meanwhile, Kyle Chandler (Game Night, First Man) is playing Col. Cathcart, who keeps raising the number of Yossarian's highly dangerous missions, despite his many requests for reassignment.

Hugh Laurie (House, The Night Manager) also appears as Major de Coverley in the Hulu mini-series, in which Clooney directs episode 1 and 2 -- with acclaimed cinematographer-turned-TV helmer Ellen Kuras directing episode 3 and 4."

Executive produced by Clooney's longtime producing partner Grant Heslov, who also directs the final two episodes, 5 and 6, "Catch-22" is set to premiere May 17th, only on Hulu.

synopsis:
Based on Joseph Heller's seminal novel of the same name, CATCH-22 is the story of the incomparable, artful dodger, Yossarian (Christopher Abbott), a US Air Force bombardier in World War II who is furious because thousands of people he has never met are trying to kill him.

But his real problem is not the enemy, but rather his own army which keeps increasing the number of missions the men must fly to complete their service. Yet if Yossarian makes any attempt to avoid his military assignments, he'll be in violation of Catch-22, a hilariously sinister bureaucratic rule which specifies that a concern for one's own safety in the face of dangers which are real and immediate is the process of a rational mind; a man is considered insane if he willingly continues to fly dangerous combat missions, but a request to be removed from duty is evidence of sanity and therefore makes him ineligible to be relieved from duty.
