Joey King (The Kissing Booth, Slender Man) and Oscar-and-Emmy-winner Patricia Arquette (Boyhood, Escape at Dannemora) play a daughter and mother whose relationship is shrouded in dark secrets and lies.

Check out the first official teaser trailer for "The Act," Hulu's new true-crime anthology series in which the first eight-episode season will depict the stranger-than-fiction, yet tragic true story of Gypsy and Dee Dee Blanchard.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard (portrayed here by King) is a young woman who is forced to live a false life. Her overprotective mother, Dee Dee (Arquette), has convinced just about everyone in her town that Gypsy not only suffers from a mental disorder, but also has leukemia, asthma, and muscular dystrophy. In truth, Gypsy is a perfectly healthy girl, who's been forced to perpetrate a fraud.

But what started out as one of the most bizarre and elaborately-engineered cases of Munchausen's Syndrome ultimately turns into a diabolical tale of murder and revenge.

Executive produced by Nick Antosca (Syfy's Channel Zero) and crime journalist Michelle Dean, "The Act: Season 1" will premiere exclusively on Hulu beginning Wednesday, March 20th.
