It's the horror franchise that just won't die. Now it's been rebooted for a new generation.

Check out the first official trailer for "Child's Play," the upcoming modern-day reboot of the popular killer doll franchise that stars Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Rec, Legion) as a loving single mother who soon regrets buying a certain possessed Buddi doll named Chucky for her tween-age son, Andy (played here by Lights Out's Gabriel Bateman).

Despite the fact that the original Chucky film series is still going strong with franchise creator Don Mancini currently developing a "Child's Play" TV series, we should note that this new updated version does not have the involvement of Mancini, nor will it feature the voice of veteran character actor Brad Dourif as Chucky. As of yet, it's still unknown who will voice the Chucky character for this new horror reboot.

Directed by horror filmmaker Lars Klevberg, who previously helmed the long-delayed supernatural thriller "Polaroid" (also due out this year), the "Child's Play" reboot co-stars Atlanta's Brian Tyree Henry as a police detective, with an appearance by Tim Matheson (The West Wing, Animal House) as the CEO/founder of the Kaslan tech company that incidentally created a new hi-tech WiFi-enabled Buddi doll.

Produced by "IT" producers Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg, "Child's Play" is slated to open in theaters this summer, beginning June 21st.

synopsis:
A contemporary re-imagining of the 1988 horror classic, CHILD'S PLAY follows Karen (Aubrey Plaza), a single mother who gifts her son Andy (Gabriel Bateman) a Buddi doll, unaware of its more sinister nature.
