Captain Marvel — Super Bowl Trailer

Brie Larson feels the need for speed in the newly-released Super Bowl commercial for "Captain Marvel."

The Oscar-winning actress plays the titular Marvel superhero who appears to be living by the motto, "higher, further, faster."

The film, which takes place in the early 1990s, explores the origins of Carol Danvers (Larson), the half-human, half-kree super-warrior who was once a U.S. Air Force fighter pilot, but because of an accident that resulted in her human DNA fusing with alien Kree DNA, has no memory of her human past.

However, Danvers begins to recollect some personal memories when she returns to Earth to chase down an elusive band of space-invading aliens with shape-shifting abilities called the Skrulls. And once on Earth, she partners up with a then-low-ranking S.H.I.E.L.D. agent named Nick Fury (played here by Samuel L. Jackson, who was made to look younger through a de-aging process).

Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Mississippi Grind, Half Nelson) and co-starring Lashana Lynch as Carol's former Air Force partner, Ben Mendelsohn as the main Skrull villain and Clark Gregg as a young Agent Coulson, "Captain Marvel" is flying into theaters March 8th.

The story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe's most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races.

Set in the 1990s, Captain Marvel is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
