Dev Patel (Lion, Slumdog Millionaire) is an armed wedding crasher in this tense bride-abduction thriller, which is written and directed by prolific English filmmaker Michael Winterbottom, whose credits include the acclaimed films "A Mighty Heart," "The Killer Inside Me," "The Trip," and "24 Hour Party People."

Taking place in parts of Pakistan and India, "The Wedding Guest" is a no-frills, bare-bones thriller about a mysterious British Muslim man (played by Patel) who's been hired to stage the abduction of a young Indian bride-to-be (played by Radhika Apte; star of the Netflix Indian horror miniseries "Ghoul").

While forced into an arranged marriage, the Indian woman is due to be married in Pakistan in a couple of days. But on the night before the nuptials, she is stealthily kidnapped/rescued by a professional gun-for-hire. The problem is, he's not someone she can fully trust -- especially when it comes to her own freedom.

"The Wedding Guest," which premiered at last year's Toronto International Film Festival, is set to open in select U.S. theaters on March 1st. Watch the newly-released official trailer, above.

synopsis:
This propulsive, globetrotting thriller from acclaimed director Michael Winterbottom is a breathless tour through the shadowy underworlds and hidden realms of Pakistan and India.

Jay (Dev Patel) is a man with a secret who travels from Britain to Pakistan to attend a wedding -- armed with duct tape, a shotgun, and a plan to kidnap the bride-to-be (Radhika Apte). Despite his cool efficiency, the plot quickly spirals out of control, sending Jay and his hostage on the run across the border and through the railway stations, back alleys, and black markets of New Delhi -- as all the while attractions simmer, loyalties shift, and explosive secrets are revealed.

Pulsating with the sights and sounds of the Indian subcontinent, THE WEDDING GUEST conjures a colorful world where danger lurks at every turn and nothing is as it seems.
