This year marks the 50th anniversary of the 1969 Moon landing. And to celebrate the historic event, NEON and CNN Films are going to release a brand-new Apollo 11 documentary, featuring never-before-seen 70mm footage.

Documentarian Todd Douglas Miller, who previously made the Emmy-winning Tyrannosaurus Rex fossil doc. "Dinosaur 13," directs this visually stunning and detailed account of the events surrounding the Apollo 11 mission, in which astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first humans to walk on the moon.

Constructed and edited together from a newly discovered cache of rarely seen, large-format film footage and rare audio recordings of the groundbreaking NASA mission, "Apollo 11" will present the Moon landing (which is regarded as one of humanity's greatest accomplishments) like we've never seen it before -- in pristine high-definition.

Currently premiering at this year's Sundance Film Festival, "Apollo 11" will be coming to theaters later in the year. In the meantime, you can check out the newly-released official trailer, above.

From director Todd Douglas Miller (Dinosaur 13) comes a cinematic event fifty years in the making.

Crafted from a newly discovered trove of 65mm footage, and more than 11,000 hours of uncatalogued audio recordings, APOLLO 11 takes us straight to the heart of NASA's most celebrated mission -- the one that first put men on the moon, and forever made Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin into household names. Immersed in the perspectives of the astronauts, the team in Mission Control, and the millions of spectators on the ground, we vividly experience those momentous days and hours in 1969 when humankind took a giant leap into the future.
