While attempting to save his Malawian village from famine, a clever 13-year-old boy constructs an energy-producing windmill out of scrap metal and bicycle parts in this inspirational true story, which marks the feature directorial debut of Oscar-nominated actor Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave).

Introducing first-time actor Maxwell Simba, "The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind" is based on the best selling book and the incredible true story of William Kamkwamba, an inventive Malawian engineer who, back in 2007 as a young school boy, managed to build a makeshift wind turbine from discarded machine parts and old-forgotten textbooks, which ultimately helped his family and village as it was suffering from a crippling drought.

Ejiofor, who also wrote the screenplay, portrays William's father, Trywell, a hard-working farmer with a skeptical eye and a stubborn mindset.

"The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind" is set to make its world premiere this weekend at the Sundance Film Festival. It's also scheduled to premiere March 1st on Netflix. Watch the trailer, above.
